In the footsteps of the ghost towns of Alberta and Saskatchewan

I discovered this part of Canada through the prairies and its vast isolated expanses which took me on the trail of ghost villages……This route began in southern Alberta, starting from Raley then continuing my way on the famous Route 13, the Ghost Town Trail in Saskatchewan. . My tour then continued through northern Saskatchewan, ending in the other ghost towns near Brooks and Drumheller in Alberta.

The encounter with these strange places, worn by time, gives way to ancient vestiges, traces of the past still present, like the smell of old wood and aging, all these old furniture and withered objects, worn by time. …seemed so scary and magical… Seen from the outside, some houses sometimes seem to have an expression of terror mixed with realism and the spiritual. The winds add the final note of an apocalyptic and distressing setting….

What’s interesting is that sometimes there are still a few rare people living in the middle of these ghost villages….. Which for me is great… Sometimes, entire villages are left in the hands of time. . . We see, sometimes just the skull of a roof which subist on the ground covered tall grass.…

From a photographic point of view, I found it interesting to encounter old cabins built in alignment with each other… As they age they offer an asymmetrical perspective… as if they were getting closer to each other …Abandonment ultimately brings an art to these ghost houses……. I found it interesting to sometimes see them through the shadow of the foliage, from a small embankment at the entrance to abundant vegetation…

Through my photos, you will surely find your own feelings, your own story. This is what makes art beautiful…. I hope that these images will invite you to personal reflection, even for a short moment, to realize that time does not die…. He ages and shows us what once was…
